Suzanne Gill graduated with a Distinction in HNC Millinery from Leeds College of Arts in June 2010. Her success has been built on quality, attention to detail, and sheer flair. Her trade mark is to provide her clients with just the right touch, in order to make a hat or headwear the finale to an outfit and an occasion.
As a busy mum with two daughters, Suzanne appreciates that most women have little time or have very few occasions to feel glamorous. The ethos behind Suzanne Gill Millinery is that every woman deserves to feel special.
“A Wedding Day is a special day for the mother of the bride. Many are daunted at the prospect of wearing a hat on such a special day. I offer friendly advice and design suggestions and make a hat suited to the needs, budget and taste of each of my clients. This way, they leave feeling special and valued.”
Each piece is designed with my client in mind. The piece is then hand blocked then hand sewn. I work from home in Ampleforth and offer relaxed commitment-free consultations at times to suit my clients.
Suzanne’s work comes highly commended with glowing reports in the 2009 and 2010 Felt Makers Awards. The 2009 Twisted Thread Exhibition in Harrogate featured 3 of her creations on the catwalk. More recently, she has added to her portfolio with “Swan Song,” a creation made from old vinyl LPs that shows just what can be achieved by combining flair with recycled materials. You can see it alongside the work of celebrated British designer Philip Treacy as part of the Ruffled Feathers Exhibition at Lotherton Hall near Leeds. Suzanne has recently been commissioned to design and make a collection of 1940s hats by The North Yorkshire Moors Railway for their upcoming ‘Railway in Wartime’ weekend.
