Grays Court

Gray's Court

The cobbled courtyard belonging to Grays Court at the junction of Chapter House Street and Ogleforth constitutes one of the most picturesque and unspoiled corners of York. Facing the courtyard entrance is Grays Court itself, one of the most historic buildings in England. This ancient house was the residence of the Treasurers of York Minster from the 11th century until the latter was despoiled by Henry V111 in 1547. From 1788 to 1945 it was the home of the distinguished York family, the Grays from whom the name is derived. It was sold to the Dean & Chapter of York Minster in 1945 who in turn sold it to its present owners in 2005.

Ripley Castle

ripley castle bride across the lake

Ripley Castle will always have a special place in our hearts as this is where we held our first ever wedding fair which was subsequently nominated for the ‘Best Wedding Fair’ award with The Bridal Magazine.  It’s a beautiful venue, with a lake at the rear, overlooked by deer who did not seem in the least bit fazed by the fantastic firework display we had at the end!
Staff at Ripley Castle are extremely efficient and you can rest assured that they will do all they can to ensure your day goes by without a hitch. The food is fantastic – in fact, a few of our exhibitors did say they wanted to spend all their time in the exhibitor room with the lovely lunch that was provided!
Ripley Castle is one of the few venues that also has its own chapel, giving you the option to have a church wedding but still have your venue on the doorstep. We had our event in the refurbished East Wing, with the Man Creche held in the Stables Bar. It does have a quintessential English charm that we love, and this is why we will continue to recommend this venue for as long as we are around to do so!
